Keituber.com – Each college and university has its own admissions requirements based on their academic standing, school structure, and type of programs offered. General admissions application requirements may include the following elements to help colleges learn more about who you are.
Application form
Read and fill the application form carefully. Do not be afraid to ask questions about something that is not clear. A simple mistake can mean the difference between getting into college or not.
Essays (or other writing samples)
The essay is one of the most important parts of your application, and your chance to shine. Colleges want to know how you describe yourself in writing. Be sure to think about how you want to do it. Leave plenty of time to craft your essays — you may have to write several drafts before you get the right one.
The good news is that college essay topics often overlap, so you may not have to write a new essay for each application. Be sure to get help from your high school counselor and teachers. Look at your past work — maybe you wrote an essay for a class that could be adapted to a college essay.

Your transcript will show the high schools you attended, courses taken and grades, as well as your Regents test scores, cumulative grade point average (GPA), SAT, SAT Subject Test and ACT scores, and school attendance. Colleges use this information to determine whether you meet admissions and eligibility requirements. It is also used to determine if you meet high school graduation requirements.
School profile
If your high school has a school profile (ask your high school counselor), it’s a good idea to attach it to your transcript before sending it to college. The profile paints a picture of your school for admissions counselors and provides information about your school environment.
Test results
These include your scores from the SAT or ACT. Colleges vary on whether or not they consider the SAT essay when evaluating applications.
Advice forms
Ask for advice from people who know you well – teachers, guidance counselors, employers or any adult who can provide positive and insightful feedback on your skills, maturity, integrity and personality. Make sure you submit the forms well before the application deadline.
List of activities
This list should include all extracurricular activities you participated in throughout high school. There are websites that can help you create a professional resume to include with your application.
Payment or payment cancellation form
You will need to submit a check or money order for the application fee. If you are requesting an apology, use the College Board’s resignation form or a letter from your school. Some colleges may also have their own forms.
An alternative sample of creative work
If applicable, include a creative writing sample, portfolio, or audition CD.
